DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:
Represents the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management on issues
concerning the Orange Creek Basin, Rodman Reservoir, lower St. Johns River,
and other North Central Region water bodies and watersheds as needed.
Represents the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management on FWC Orange
Creek Basin Working Group and will be expected to become chairperson of the
group. Establishes and maintains stakeholder contacts with anglers, fish
camps, local governmental officials, tackle shop owners, fishing guides,
outdoor media, fishing clubs, Audubon Society, etc. to ensure effective,
two-way communication relative to FWC programs and projects. Coordinates
with Regional Freshwater Fisheries Administrator and HSC staff to develop
aquatic restoration, enhancement, and aquatic plant management, and other
projects that emphasize improving or maintaining sport fish populations,
angler access or the creation of new fishing opportunities. Assists
Regional Freshwater Fisheries staff in developing partnerships in aquatic
resource management projects with federal, state and local agencies and
stakeholders. Works with Division of Habitat and Species Aquatic Habitat
Restoration and Enhancement and Invasive Plant Management personnel to
maintain expertise in those areas and ensure that DFFM's interests are
considered when planning projects and other work. Serve as Division of
Freshwater Fisheries Manage ment representative on intra- and inter-agency
groups. Assists with ongoing fish community and angler utilization
sampling. Supervises Fish and Wildlife Biological Scientist II whose duties
are mainly to assist in the duties above. Motivate, develop, and direct
staff as they work, and provide leadership for subordinate personnel
Knowledge of Florida's freshwater fish, fisheries, fish population dynamics
and fish management techniques. Knowledge of freshwater aquatic plants and
related management techniques. Knowledge of aquatic habitat restoration
techniques and the ability to develop new or revised restoration or
enhancement techniques based on system conditions. Ability to work with
internal and external technical personnel, managers, government officials,
riparian land owners and other stakeholders. Must demonstrate leadership
ability and communication skills to work with internal and external
customers. Ability to operate and tow boats less than 26 feet in length,
including airboats. Working ability with office productivity software.
DESIRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in
one of the biological sciences and 2 years of professional biological
experience or A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in
fisheries or related field and one year of professional biological
experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

South Florida Aquatic Management Project seeks an avian ecologist to join a
multidisciplinary team actively implementing habitat restoration and
management strategies on Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Primary responsibilities
of this position will focus on developing management strategies that enhance
