POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Title: Assistant Director - Extension Agriculture, Natural
Resources and Community Development
Location: K-State Research and Extension
Kansas State University
Manhattan, Kansas
Timeline: Review of applications will begin on May 2, 2011 and continue
until the position is filled. It is anticipated that interviews will be
conducted in June 2011. The position is available July 1, 2011.
The Assistant Director provides vision and leadership for Kansas State
University's Extension programs in Agriculture & Natural Resources and
Community Development. The Assistant Director gives leadership and
coordination to outcome-based, interdisciplinary, and integrated research
and Extension programs within the University as well as with outside
agencies, organizations and other institutions. The Assistant Director
develops and maintains effective state and national partnerships to enhance
educational programming and resources through grants and contracts that
support and expand Extension programs. The Assistant Director encourages and
facilitates use of state-of-the-art technologies and creative formats to
reach a variety of constituents.
Responsibilities:
. Administer and provide leadership for the development,
implementation, and evaluation of innovative and effective Extension
programs in agriculture, natural resources and community development.
. Coordinate interdisciplinary, integrated research and Extension
programs among faculty and departments.
. Provide coordinated leadership for Extension faculty development.
. Cooperate with Extension administrative team in the development of
outcome-based programming, evaluation, and reporting.
. Participate in the development and implementation of budget and
staffing recommendations.
. Develop and maintain effective liaison with agencies, associations,
and committees at the state, regional, and national levels as appropriate to
the position.
. Participate as a member of the administrative staff in review and
development of Extension policies and procedures.
. Create an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality and
ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
. Provide leadership, program direction, evaluation and budgeting of
personnel assigned to the position.
Qualifications:
. Earned doctorate in field of study relevant to the mission of
Cooperative Extension and the duties and knowledge areas for the position.
. Experience in leadership and development, delivery, and evaluation
of Extension programs and personnel.
. Knowledge of current Extension issues and vision of future Extension
needs.
. Ability to communicate effectively with Extension personnel,
county/district boards, clientele and stakeholders.
. Commitment to expanding and fostering diversity of Extension
workforce and audience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This is an unclassified position. Academic rank and tenure is negotiable
with the successful candidate through a vote of the faculty in the tenure
home of said candidate. Benefits include the Board of Regents retirement
plan, group health and life insurance, vacation, sick leave and other
benefits. There is a minimum of a 30 day waiting period for health
