Job Title: Ecological Stream Flow Technician
Location: Resource Science Center, 1110 S. College Ave, Columbia, MO
65201
Pay Rate: $12.34 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Start Date: April 25, 2011 (Flexible)
End Date: June 15, 2012 (Subject to Conservation Commission approval
of FY2012 Budget, continued availability of funds, and employee
performance); Possibility for extension.
Duties: Collect and analyze data for evaluation of stream flow effects on
habitat availability and water quality in the lower Osage River, the largest
tributary of the Missouri River within the state of Missouri; Calibrate,
deploy, and maintain water quality datasondes; Assist Resource Scientist
with collection, analysis, and summarization of stream flow and habitat data
for ecological flow recommendations on streams statewide; Work independently
on assigned portions of other projects and assume responsibilities such as
data verification and management of large databases; Supervise and train
other temporary employees; Enter, manage, and summarize data; Write text and
construct tables, figures, and maps for reports and presentations; Build,
repair, and maintain field and laboratory equipment; Other duties as
assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Sciences,
Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Hydrology, or closely related
major; Extensive experience driving boats on large rivers; Experience
conducting aquatic research independently and as a field crew leader;
Ability to operate 4-wheel drive trucks, trailers, water quality datasondes,
GPS units, various scientific meters, and stream habitat measurement
equipment; Proficiency in using computer software to manage databases and
construct data tables (e.g. Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, ArcGIS,
PowerPoint); Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel
statewide (expenses for overnight stays will be reimbursed); Availability to
work weekends on short notice, especially during July-January; Valid
driver's license required.
