Research Scientist - Fisheries Management and Development with The WorldFish

The WorldFish Center is a world-class scientific research organization. Our
mission is to reduce poverty and hunger by improving fisheries and
aquaculture. We have 13 offices across Africa, Asia and the Pacific and are
engaged in collaborative research with our partners in more than 50
countries. The Center is a nonprofit organization and a member of the
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

Responsibilities

. Designing and leading applied research projects in collaboration
with national and regional partners that address change as it affects
communities reliant upon small-scale fisheries and wetlands;

. Leading or providing technical input to components of
multidisciplinary projects;

. Developing and promoting cross-disciplinary and participatory
approaches for analyzing institutional, management and policy challenges
relating to food security, ecology, and livelihoods;

. Facilitating exchange of lessons and best practices through
innovative approaches to communication;

. Publishing results of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals,
policy briefings, and popular media and presenting research at international
conferences;

. Contributing to setting WorldFish research priorities, globally and
in the Greater Mekong region; and . Conceptualizing and developing proposals
for future grant-funded research.

Requirements

. PhD in either a social science (sociology, geography, anthropology,
political science, natural resources economics, institutional economics,
development policy, law, etc.) OR an environmental science (biology,
ecology, fisheries science, etc.)

. More than 8 years research experience;

. Field experience addressing natural resources management, rural
development, or fisheries and aquaculture challenges in developing
countries;

. Strong research skills, a publishing and grant-funded research track
record, ability to critically assess and synthesize existing research;

. Proven project management, partner relations, and leadership skills;
demonstrated ability to design and lead multi-partner research
collaboration;

. Ability to adapt and communicate effectively in a wide range of
cultural settings and with different stakeholders;

. Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary approaches to natural
resource management, with application to small-scale fisheries an advantage;


. Excellent written and verbal English proficiency;

. Physical fitness, readiness to travel;

. Experience in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, or Myanmar, or
proficiency in a national language of the region is an advantage; and

. Candidates who have recently completed their PhD or with fewer years
of postdoctoral experience may be considered at the Research Fellow level.
