Description of Duties
The incumbent serves as the Division of Hunting and Game Management's
Assistant Deer Management Program Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible
for identifying and pursuing opportunities to achieve objectives in the
Strategic Plan for Deer Management and to achieve goals, policies,
strategies, and objectives in the Agency Strategic Plan, particularly as
they relate to deer and deer habitat. This should include coordinating with
cooperators, stakeholders and agency staff with regard to deer management
issues, promoting and enhancing deer management and hunting opportunities on
private and public lands; identifying information needs relative to deer
management and facilitating the meeting of those needs; providing
recommendations on policies and practice! s for management of deer and deer
habitat and for regulation of deer hunting; and coordinating the efforts and
activities of private, state, and federal agencies and organizations
involving deer management, research, and public education. The incumbent
will help develop and implement management goals for Deer Management Units,
manage database systems and work with the Commission's deer depredation and
buck registry programs. The incumbent courteously assists Commission
constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have in matters
relating to the Commission, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation
and seeks to garner public support for agency objectives and programs by
serving Florida's citizens in a positive and proactive manner. Persons with
experience with human dimensions, research, modeling wildlife populations,
GIS, data collection and analysis, preparation of technical reports, deer
management/research experience or game m! anagement/research experience are
preferred.

Bachelor's degree with a major in one of the biological sciences and two
years of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory
program; or a Master's degree in one of the biological sciences and one year
professional biological experience; or a Doctorate in one of the biological
sciences. Degrees in Wildlife Management/Ecology or other natural resource
fields are preferred. Experience working with deer and deer management
preferred.
