Description of Duties:   PENDING VACANCY.   The person in this position serves as an Assistant to the Grants Coordinator for the Florida’s State Wildlife Grants Program a part of Florida’s Wildlife Legacy Initiative (http://www.myfwc.com/WILDLIFEHABITATS/Legacy_index.htm).  Florida’s State Wildlife Grants Program is a federally funded matching grants program.  This position is responsible for coordinating with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, writing grant agreements, processing invoices, documenting project match, coordinating the grant review process and compliance, monitoring grant activities including progress and budgets, writing program and project reports, insuring successful completion and closure of grant projects, providing technical assistance to grantees, and maint! aining and controlling access to historical grant files and resources for auditing purposes.

This is a highly technical position responsible for providing data management, analysis and interpretation support for the Objective-based Vegetation Management (OBVM), Restoration and Conservation Planning programs within the agency’s Terrestrial Habitat Conservation and Restoration section.
 
Responsibilities for providing technical support in the following areas:  
 
Data management, analysis and report preparation.  
*	Manages all aspects of data integrated into the FWC Geographic Information System (GIS) - based Land Management Information System including 1) acquiring or developing data sets related to managing, conserving, and restoring fish and wildlife resources on agency managed lands; 2) developing and applying data quality control procedures and integrating these into the land management assessment system; 3) assembling and maintaining wildlife management area infrastructure data; 4) migrating all LMIS geospatial data into an ArcSDE environment.
*	Manages GIS contracted projects.
*	Assists in analyzing, interpreting and disseminating vegetation and animal survey, inventory and monitoring data to WMA biologists; develops ArcGIS data presentation templates and data query definitions using tools created for the Land Management Information System. 
*	Works with staff to ensure monitoring protocol standards are consistent with data storage and analysis needs.
*	Develops and manages WEB content for the Intra- and Internet WEB sites supporting these statewide initiatives.
*	Identifies data management needs and solutions for the Habitat Assessment and Restoration Program.
Technical Assistance.  
*	Assists OBVM Program Coordinator, Conservation Ecologist and GIS Analyst in developing and implementing vegetation management and habitat conservation and restoration initiatives on agency managed lands and habitat modeling.
*	Provides technical support, education and training to Wildlife Management Area staff in use of GIS concepts and custom data interpretation tools provided.
Workshops and training.  Assists program coordinators with workshops and training for WMA staff.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*	Proven proficiency in developing and maintaining a geospatial database of relevant natural resource, land management and biological data in a format compatible with ArcGIS 9.3 and higher and ArcSDE.
*	Working knowledge of and experience in analyzing data and developing applications within a GIS using Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) software including ArcInfo/ArcGIS version 9.3 or higher and ArcPad 8.0 or higher. 
*	Ability to train professional staff.  
*	 Proficient in communicating technical GIS and data management concepts to a non-technical audience.
*	This position requires some travel.
 
Strong preference will be given to candidates with:  experience in creating, manipulating and managing natural resource geospatial and biological data within ArcGIS version 9.3 and/or ArcSDE; good organizational skills; ability to work both independently with minimal direction as well as with a team; excellent interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication; experience in maintaining WEB sites; working knowledge of plants and plant communities and/or wildlife and wildlife habitats of Florida; experience using the custom ArcGIS data analysis tools called ERAtools and ERAtools Administrator.

DESCRIPTION:  This position is responsible for surveying colonies of bats in north Florida caves for a 1-year grant-funded project to estimate bat abundance prior to potential impacts from White Nose Syndrome.  Duties include using thermal imaging camera to record bat emergence from cave roosts, estimating colony size with manual and computer-assisted counting, comparing current and past colony estimates, managing databases and creating protocols for future surveys, installing and monitoring temperature data loggers in caves, assisting with development of a state! wide WNS response plan, and providing educational programs or materials on WNS.  Funding available for 1 year only.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  B.S. Degree in Wildlife Biology or related field required, advanced degree is strongly preferred.   Must be able to work independently in field conditions; experience with cave conservation, video monitoring, thermal imaging cameras, and data loggers is preferred.  Must be fluent in MS Excel or Access, be able to manage multiple data sets, and work cooperatively with colleagues and landowners.  Advanced knowledge of bat biology and conservation is a plus.
