Description of duties: Incumbent is responsible for day to day operations on
the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area located in Glades County for
the Division of Habitat and Species Conservation. Specific duties include
developing and implementing budgets and annual work plans, providing direct
supervision for 2 FTEs and 1 OPS, providing oversight and participating in
habitat improvement/restoration programs, monitoring various wildlife
populations, working with other divisions/sections to develop and promote
public use programs including both hunting and non-hunting uses, working
across division and agency lines on various issues including watershed
improvements and restoration, and setting management and restoration
objectives consistent with agency and division directives.

Description of duties: Includes direct responsibility for the planning,
development and implementation of management programs for the Arbuckle and
Walk-In-Water Wildlife Management Areas, and participation in those same
activities for the Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area.
Responsible for the development and implementation of habitat management
programs to maintain and perpetuate native wildlife populations. These
programs include activities such as prescribed fire, and mechanical and
chemical control of native and exotic vegetation. Other responsibilities
include: coordination and implementation of managed public hunts; providing
management recommendations to cooperating agencies to promote the
conservation of wildlife resources; design and implementation of biological
surveys to monitor the status of selected species, including data ana! lysis
and report writing; development, execution, and tracking of area spending
plans; development and implementation of public recreational programs;
proposing regulations based on sound biological and sociological principles;
development and implementation of scientifically appropriate monitoring
programs; preparation and submission of short- and long-range plans,
periodic and final administrative and biological reports for assigned areas;
supervision of various OPS staff; and furthering agency goals through
interactions with cooperating agencies and stakeholders.
KSAs: Wildlife ecology; ecosystem management; fire ecology and plant
succession; applied knowledge of the principles and practices of habitat
management and restoration, including prescribed fire, mechanical and
chemical vegetation control, and exotic plant control; ability to identify
common and imperiled species, and understand their habitat and life history
requirements; ability to write technical reports; wildlife and habitat
survey and inventory knowledge; ability to collect and analyze biological
data; ability to design statistically sound monitoring projects; water
management; timber management; budget management; proficiency with typical
Windows applications including ArcGIS; geospatial referencing; familiarity
with infrastructure development and maintenance; familiarity with outdoor
recreational activities and the facilities needed to support them; ability
to o! rganize work and set priorities; and ability to operate outdoors under
inclement weather conditions. Incumbent must possess the initiative,
motivation, and self-direction necessary to function under remote
supervision.
