DESCRIPTION:

OCCUPATION PROFILE

Salary: $36,607.86 annually; $1,402.60 bi-weekly + benefits
 
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Biology or a closely related biological
field required.


DESCRIPTION 
 
§ Interacts with saltwater recreational anglers through direct contact at
boat shows, fishing seminars, fishing tournaments, fishing shows and
meetings of fishing organizations, etc.  Presents information on the
conservation of marine resources (particularly fisheries), fisheries
management concerns and issues, the role of personal stewardship in marine
resource management (particularly fisheries), and serves as a conduit for
communication between the angling public and the FWC and vice versa.  Duties
require travel and work over 40 hours a week, including! some weekends,
weeknights and holidays.
§ Serves as a representative with the Florida Marine Science Educators
Association (FMSEA).  Administers the Aquatic Species Collecting Certificate
program, including database management, issuing collecting certificates and
maintaining all supplies, equipment and files relating to this program.
Coordinates the Aquatic Species Collecting Workshops with FMSEA.  
§ Manages the Marine Field Activities Program.  Develops marine resource
curricula (for use in the field) for middle and high school teachers and
students to illustrate the methods and techniques utilized by scientists to
collect marine resources data used to manage Florida’s marine fisheries.
Coordinates and instructs week-long teacher workshops, prepares all
materials for these workshops, conducts evaluations, and improves programs
as needed.  
*	 Maintains marine organisms in aquariums that are used in O&E
programs statewide.  Maintains aquaria, feeds marine organisms and oversees
fish room work schedule.
§ Maintains the FISH Exhibit (Fish, Invertebrates, and Saltwater Habitats)
and coordinates the use of the trailer at statewide locations and provides
training, marine fisheries information and guidance for the health of marine
organisms used in the trailer.

Office: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Access) 
*	Ability to understand, evaluate, analyze and organize marine
resources (especially fisheries) information into a logical format for
presentation in reports, documents and other written materials and for
coherent presentations to a variety of audiences; Ability to conduct fact
finding research and utilize problem solving techniques 
*	Knowledge of saltwater fishing (techniques, gear and experience) 
*	Effective communication skills (public speaking, writing and
personal interaction) 
*	Ability to understand and apply rules, policies regulations, and
procedures relating to program activities 
*	Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments 
*	Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
*	Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with diverse groups of people 
*	Knowledge of marine aquarium systems, equipment and techniques to
maintain live marine organisms 
*	Ability to safely tow vehicles (trailers and boats) 
*	Must be willing and able to travel and work overtime hours,
including some weekends, weeknights and holidays.
