and its capabilities:

*March 4th*/ Rob Cain/Keith Jones (Asylum Technologies) / "Asylum MFP-3D
atomic force microscopy for characterization of soft and hard surfaces,
with temperature and environmental contol. "

*On Thursday afternoon and Friday morning they
are available to run some MSU samples*. Their
machine will be set up in the Basement of BPS
in room 135/6. Details of the instrument and the

The instrument Asylum is bring to MSU is described in
the brochure:

http://www.asylumresearch.com/Products/Mfp3DSA/Mfp3DSA.shtml

They are bringing the following accessories:

1. the Closed Fluid Cell: a completely sealed design, for experiments in
which you need to exchange gas or liquid

html

2. iDrive: a cantilever holder that provides an alternative to acoustic
AC (tapping) mode in liquid. It allows auto-tunes in liquid (for easier
set-up), is great for soft samples, and allows phase and DualAC imaging
in liquid (providing useful information about material mechanical
properties that are otherwise unavailable.)

3. Dual-Gain ORCA: For conductive AFM and point and click IV curves at
specific, user defined locations.

4. Temperature control accessories.
Polyheater - ambient to 300C in a controlled gaseous environment.

BioHeater - ambient to 80C in a controlled liquid environment.
