Fish Biologist 

GS-0482-12/13 

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administers lands that directly affect
over 3 million acres of lakes and reservoirs and 117,000 miles of
fish-bearing streams. Water bodies on BLM-administered lands are diverse,
ranging from isolated desert springs populated with rare endemic species to
large Columbia River tributaries with important habitat for Pacific salmon
and steelhead. BLM waters also support subsistence fisheries that sustain
Native American cultural heritages, as well as nationally significant
recreational fisheries such as Gunnison Gorge, Lake Havasu and the Rogue
River. 

Position Responsibilities: 

        Provides policy and guidance to BLM State and Field Offices in
support of the Fisheries Program. 

        Provides support for various Initiatives such as Healthy Landscapes,
Climate Change, and Renewable Energy. 

        Provides BLM guidance for National Fish Habitat Action Plan, Aquatic
Nuisance Species Task Force, and the Federal Fish Passage Steering
Committee. 

        Reviews legislation and regulations that influence fish management
on BLM-administered lands. 

        Maintains liaison with other governmental agencies and various fish
conservation and sportsman's organizations at the national, regional, and
state levels.
