Description of duties:
Serves as the statewide snail kite coordinator and is responsible for coordinating snail kite management and conservation activities within the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and with entities external to the FWC. Duties include developing and coordinating management and conservation actions for snail kites; providing snail kite expertise; identifying snail kite research needs; disseminating research findings within FWC; developing, coordinating, and/or implementing management actions, outreach and communication products, study designs, and monitoring programs; representing FWC at meetings and conferences; developing and maintaining effective communications between units within the FWC; acting as a liaison and building effective partnerships with oth! er agencies and private institutions to accomplish management objectives. Works directly with FWC's Aquatic Habitat Management and Invasive Plant Management Sections to coordinate snail kite management with aquatic habitat management. Produces manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and in-house reports as appropriate and obtains grant funding as appropriate. Provides other technical biological services related to protected species. Duties include reviewing and editing protected species documents, including conservation and management plans, biological status reports, and listing-related documents; and providing technical assistance on protected species to other entities in the agency, other agencies and organizations, and the public. Perform various administrative tasks associated with agency operations. Duties include preparing and reviewing itineraries, travel vouchers, purchasing forms, vehicle operation reports, and other routine administrative reports, and oth! er tasks as assigned.
