Nick,

Looks like this problem is not resolved. Dropped calls are worse than ever today. Can't even call my voice-mail.

Thanks,

Steve

Steven,

We have been forwarding the customer complaints to our contacts at Verizon. They did acknowledge an issue with some of the DAS antennas in the center of campus (loosely serving the area north of Anthony Hall, West of the Planetarium, East of the Stadium and south of Kedzie hall). By forwarding the drop complaints, they were able to find and fix the issue. This should be corrected as of the beginning of this week. If it is not, please continue to let us know.

Just thought I would give you all an update on this subject. I submitted a service request through MSU Telecom as Nick suggested but have not yet heard anything back from that side.

The good news is that I pushed this issue with Verizon and they started to do some in-depth troubleshooting. Once I found the correct person, he was able to pull up my account and show that I had 18 dropped calls in about two weeks. He then put me in contact with someone else at Verizon who asked me about 100 questions about the problem and submitted a trouble ticket. They left me a message today to tell me that they have discovered a problem with one of the towers on campus (or at least in our area) and that it is now in the process of being replaced. They said that I should expect to see this problem improve within a week or two. I should hear from them again when this is closed and I'll update you again if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Steve Plemmons

Steve,

While the University does not run the vendor's cellular network, we do have relationships with the cellular vendors where we can bring these issues up. Please open up a service request with the MSU Telecom Systems Group so we can let them know about the issue.

You can open a service request on our website at http://www.telecom.msu.edu, via the Support tab.

Sorry for the off topic, but who better to trust than my fellow IT People.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed dropped calls on campus using Verizon Wireless. I have never had this problem before, but I upgraded my phone late this summer to the HTC Ozone and it worked fine like every other VW phone that I have had over the years for a couple months. The problem now is that I repeatedly drop calls, in Wells Hall where my office is located.

If I watch the signal indicator on it will report 3-4 bars and then just drop away to nothing for about one second and come back to 3-4 bars.

Thanks,

Steve Plemmons
