Hi James--

My point was not to do away with server side authentication, but to
provide client-side authentication as people fill out a form, so that
they are not confronted with a long list of page errors. It will benefit
both sighted and non-sighted (as well as low-vision, mobility
challenged, and persons with cognitive issues) to be made aware of input
errors as they occur so they can resolve them at that point.

It's both a usability and accessibility issue.

In other words, it is still necessary to do server side validation and accessibility has nothing to do with the issue. Users with no accessibility issues may still operate without JavaScript as the WebAIM page indicates.
