Just to add some options

As far as authentication goes,to add an auth method, if you are using
Windows XP, you can use ldap authenication backended to the Kerberos
server for federated SSO. In otherwords, you can backend ldap to whatever
auth method/server you choose on a per user basis.

Deepfreeze is approximately the same thing as tivoli/rembo.

You should be able to do something along the same lines with a VM like
xen/virtualbox and Windows as the guest OS.

Clonezilla and drbl server may work for laying a new image down with a pxe
type of boot.
