If you're adventuresome, a patch has been posted which deals with this issue. You need to apply it against the 1.4.4 source. It is located here:

If you're adventuresome, but not THAT adventuresome, I have applied the patch and built the binaries for sunx86_510, which you can get here:

I've been running it for about an hour without issue, but obviously this is *brand new* so I wouldn't roll it into your live environment until the patch gets accepted and a new version of OpenAFS is released.
