We use Nagios for monitoring since it does both servers and out
environmental monitors .  I guess I don't mind washing my hands after
getting everything configured.  ;)

We also use evt2sys (from Purdue) on the Windows boxes to report to a syslog
server. Its great if you want a consolidate log system for multiple
platforms.
