This message will be going out to MSU Deans, Directors, and Chairs
("DDC list") informing them of the next phase of power upgrades in the
Computer Center.

On Friday, August 4, Phase III of electrical system upgrades in the
Computer Center will take place.  This work will require a complete
shutdown of power in the Computer Center.   Many core computing and
networking services will be unavailable starting at 6:00 P.M.; barring
unforeseen problems, all core services will be restored by 11:00 P.M.

We anticipate that basic network access (both on-campus and Internet
connectivity) will remain online during this outage.  The following
services, however, will be unavailable:

    afs.msu.edu
    angel.msu.edu
    lon-capa.msu.edu
    magic.msu.edu
    mail.msu.edu

We anticipate additional work on Computer Center electrical systems in
the coming months; further announcements will be forthcoming.  As always,
Academic Computing and Network Services (ACNS) will strive to schedule
any necessary outages for dates and times that minimize impact on the
university community.
