We also (like Rich) have one of the Dell 1U rackmount "consoles" which
you pull out and flip up to get an integrated keyboard, mouse and LCD
flatpanel screen. I love everything but the mouse dealie, which is like
a marble-sized trackball embedded into the panel next to the keyboard
with a couple of buttons surrounding it. I dislike trackballs in
general, and this one especially. (I hate it almost as much as I hate
the touchpanels on most laptops.) It works, but that's all. Even so, I
would buy another one because the convenience and form-factor are more
than worth the mouse-distress it causes me.

For the KVM, we have a Dell 8-port that mounts in the rack, but in an
interstitial space alongside the rack, not in a slot where the servers
and other "nU" devices are. It's not fancy: it only shows one console
session at a time, but so far it's been bulletproof.

I'd be glad to arrange a field trip if you'd like to see how the
integrated Dell rack KVM functions. Attached are a couple of photos
(low-res, taken with a Treo 600)...
