I have found that having a wins server defined in your tcp setup greatly
increases your ability to map \\afs\homes or \\afs.msu.edu\homes from a
Windows box.
You can check this by running start/run/winipcfg or start/run/ipconfig .
If you are still not having any luck you might run nbtstat -R from the
command window and try again.
Be sure and use both the wins.cl.msu.edu and wins1.cl.msu.edu ip
addresses as primary and secondary.
wins.cl.msu.edu 35.8.2.25
wins1.cl.msu.edu 35.8.2.69
Also plaintext passwords are required when accessing afs.msu.edu.
